Abdul Wasiu Omogbolahan Lawal

Newly-installed Oniru of Iruland, HRM Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, has rolled out 12 new developmental initiatives to develop, promote and reposition Iruland as a commercial hub and a world-class tourist centre.

Speaking during a media parley recently, the highly respected monarch said, “It’s a new season in Iruland and its time to transform our precious kingdom into the envy of others and I’m very much committed to making Iruland a habitable kingdom for all.

A major highlight of the presentation was the plan to empower 2,000 women in Iruland with business startup grants in the first year of his reign as the Oniru of Iruland.

The new king also unveiled his integrated development plan for the popular Oniru Beach, which will eventually make the aquatic region a world-class tourist centre for residents and tourists.

Oba Lawal said that consultants are reviewing the entire estate from a topographical and distribution viewpoint to reduce flooding and improve roads.

He also stated power company is currently being engaged with a view to providing power within the estate for a minimum of 23 hours daily.

On street lighting, His Royal Majesty revealed that an aggressive street lighting project has been commenced for improved security and create a more pleasing estate for pedestrians.

In keeping faith with the global war against indiscriminate waste disposal, the new administrator of Iruland told the gathering that critical attention is being paid into a recycling alternative for the estate.

“This is also being done in supporting the Lagos State government war against indiscipline in waste disposal, which is a major issue in Lagos as a whole,” Oba Lawal explained.

The safety of lives and property is key to the newly installed Oniru of Iruland and he revealed that best practices in other estates worldwide are being critically reviewed to activate the best model for Oniru estate.

Other developmental plans being put in place by the Oniru of Iruland included the following;

Physical Planning Control

It has been noticed that a lot of developments have flouted simple planning regulations, thereby, creating discomfort for neighbours and defacing the estate. Consultations are ongoing for improved and enforceable regulations for the benefit of all.

Update of Titles

Data on title documents and deeds to be centrally collated at a Central Estate Management office.

Convenience

Ease of payment of ground rent and development levy to be introduced.

Traffic Control and Road Management

Traffic flow strategy to be created for bottle-necks such as the entry from New Market Road and Ozumba Mbadiwe. Separate weekend arrangements to be made for the water-front event centre zone and the alternative access road.

Technologically Compliant Estate

Plans are underway to engage service providers for broadband internet services within the estate.

Eco Friendly and Family Friendly Environment

The Oniru waterfront is set for a change. We must create a healthy family-friendly environment for all. A tree-planting campaign will be commenced by HRM, Oba Lawal sometime in September 2020.

On the supply of adequate portable water, the monarch assured that consistent maintenance of cleanliness and greenery of the environment will be prioritized.
