The announcement came during a press briefing led by General Iwedundun Akpakpa on 28th November 2024 in Warri North.
General Akpakpa lauded the NDLM’s efforts in addressing the struggles of the Itsekiri community and vowed to provide both intelligence and logistical support to bolster their cause.
He decried the continued mistreatment of the Itsekiri people, attributing much of the oppression to the actions of Chevron Nigeria Limited and its alleged collaborators.
The IDC leader issued a stern warning to political contractors accused of working with Chevron to undermine the welfare of the Itsekiri people.
Declaring such individuals persona non grata within the Warri Kingdom, Akpakpa emphasised that the kingdom’s progress must not be sacrificed for personal or political gains.
“The advancement of the Itsekiri people and the Warri Kingdom is non-negotiable,” Akpakpa stated, threatening repercussions against those complicit in oppressing the community.
IDC Secretary Mr. Amorighoye B. Aboyowa echoed this sentiment, cautioning against any attempts to malign the NDLM. He warned that those seeking personal gain at the expense of the community’s welfare would be considered enemies of the kingdom.
“The Itsekiri people will no longer tolerate mistreatment or exploitation from Chevron or any other entity. Corporations operating within our territories must address the grievances of our youths to prevent further incidents of pipeline vandalism,” Aboyowa asserted.
The IDC’s leadership took a bold step by declaring all political contractors and supporters of Chevron in the Warri Kingdom as unwelcome.
General Akpakpa stressed that the IDC would not back down from demanding accountability and fairness in dealings with corporations.
This resolute stance highlights the IDC’s commitment to securing the rights and well-being of the Itsekiri people.
