Jigawa State lost properties worth N5 billion in the August protests. The government vows reforms to prevent future occurrences
The Jigawa State Government has announced that damages amounting to a staggering N5 billion were incurred during the nationwide protests in August 2024.

The revelation came on Tuesday night when the Chairman of the fact-finding committee on the protests, Barrister Bello Fanini, presented the committee’s findings to Governor Umar Namadi at the Government House in Dutse.
Fanini, who doubles as the state Commissioner for Justice, highlighted that the destroyed properties spanned federal, state, and local government assets, as well as privately owned establishments.
The committee also outlined a series of recommendations aimed at safeguarding lives and properties and preventing such incidents in the future.
In his response, Governor Namadi commended the committee for its thorough investigation and pledged that the government would carefully evaluate and implement the proposed recommendations.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and properties across Jigawa State.
On the same day, Governor Namadi urged public and political officeholders to adhere to their oaths of office and exhibit unwavering allegiance in their roles.
This statement was made during the swearing-in ceremony of five newly appointed special advisers at the Government House in Dutse.
The new appointees and their portfolios are:
- Sai’du Umar (Food and Nutrition)
- Bala Abdulkadir (Special Duties)
- Musa Sha’aibu (Revenue)
- Ado Mai Unguwa (Trade and Investment)
- Uzairu Nadabo (Export Processing Zone II)
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Bala Abdulkadir expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and assured the administration of their commitment to integrity and diligence.
In a related development, Governor Namadi inaugurated the Livestock Reform Implementation Committee, marking a pivotal step in advancing one of the administration’s 12-point agendas.
As chairman of the committee, the governor underscored the importance of revitalising the livestock sector to enhance the state’s agricultural output.

The committee’s secretary, Auwalu Shehu, and other members drawn from the agricultural sector and relevant stakeholders, have been tasked with implementing strategic reforms to boost livestock farming and economic growth across the state.
