“We do not have the testing data to make real sense of our reality beyond what we know is the face of [coronavirus] for an overwhelming number who get sick,” says @chriscuomo. “That face is mine. I tested positive.” pic.twitter.com/NmkAyAx9KW

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo went on-air Tuesday night, hours after revealing he tested positive for coronavirus.

The TV host — and brother of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo — assured his viewers that he was well enough to go through with his show — but added, “You don’t want to get this.”

“I tested positive. Scary, yes, as you might imagine. But better me than you,” Cuomo, 49, said, broadcasting from his basement, as he also did on Monday night.

His voice cracked as he spoke about being scared he’d infected members of his family saying the thought hurt him “way more than anything the virus can do.”

“So let’s focus, let’s use this example of me having it as proof that you can get it too, god forbid, we have to do everything we can to avoid being sick,” he continued.

“We have to do it for ourselves, our families, and for those on the front lines who are saving the lives of people like me and many of you. Together as ever as one. That is our remedy.”

He urged viewers not to get “caught up in the numbers,” which are bound to grow as testing becomes more commonplace.

“This is a fight, it’s going to get worse, and we’re going to suffer,” Cuomo said.

“And you have to accept that not with fear, but with almost a fanatical sense of passion to fight, because that’s the only way you’ve ever made it through anything hard in your life, and this will be no different.”
