The landmark policy, approved by President Bola Tinubu, reduces the cost of a single dialysis session from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000.
In a statement on Monday, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, said the move is designed to bring immediate financial relief to thousands of Nigerians battling kidney disease.
Most patients require multiple sessions weekly, a burden that often leaves families struggling.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a landmark subsidy to ease the cost of kidney dialysis for Nigerians,” Bwala said.
“This intervention reduces the price of each dialysis session to ₦12,000, bringing relief to thousands of citizens battling kidney-related diseases.”
The new pricing has already taken effect in ten major federal medical centres and teaching hospitals across all six geopolitical zones.
These include University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan; Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH); Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi; University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH);
University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH); and University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), among others.
Bwala noted that more federal facilities will be added before the year ends to ensure nationwide access.
He also recalled that last year President Tinubu approved free cesarean sections (C-sections) in federal hospitals, part of his administration’s push to reduce maternal deaths.

The kidney dialysis subsidy is being hailed as a bold step under the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at ensuring no Nigerian is denied lifesaving healthcare because of cost.
