Kaduna state governor, Nasir el-Rufai, says he does not believe in rehabilitating terrorists.
He believes that killing those that terrorize Nigerians is the best way to deal with them.
The governor stated his viewpoint on Tuesday after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and briefing state house correspondents.
He was at the White House to update Buhari on the recent attack in Kaduna state that claimed the lives of 40 people.
The governor was accompanied by Samuel Aruwan, the Kaduna commissioner for internal security and home affairs.
“Nothing beats repentant terrorists,” he said. The only bandit who has repented is the one who has died. The state’s goal is to murder them (terrorists) and then let them go to meet God.”
El-Rufai stated that the bandits’ whereabouts are not unknown, but that the military is concerned about the potential for collateral damage to the civilian populace.
According to the governor, there are three categories of terrorists: Boko Haram insurgents, bandits, and Indigenous People of Biafra members (IPOB).
He said the recent declaration of bandits as terrorists has given the military more power to wage war against them.
El-Rufai asked for the intervention of the president for more deployment of security forces to enable a comprehensive operation.
He called on the security agencies to carry out aggressive operations against the terrorists.
