As plans to allegedly make the popular chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, a king in Oshodi hit the social media, the members of the Olushi Onigbesa royal family have made appeal against such move to the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Freelanews gathered that the social media has been flooded with the rumour of impending installation of Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, as a crown king of Oshodi with the said photos of the union chairman in royal regalia been shared.

In a statement issued by the disturbed royal family in Lagos on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, making MC Oluomo a king is a flagrant disregard for culture.

“An appeal has been made to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu to intervene and stop the flagrant disregard to cultural norms by calling Mr. Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC OLUOMO, to order to desist on his bid to force himself, a non-native of Oshodi on the people as King, thinking he can have his field day using Union and State powers.

“The attention of the Olushi Onigbesa Royal Family of Oshodi Awori Kingdom has been drawn to the picture of Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya A.K.A MC OLUOMO, Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos State circulated on numerous Social Media platform where he was dressed in traditional kingly attire intended for an oba in Yoruba Land,” it read.

The family said they decided to react on the said rumour because of some trending videos on both social and conventional media of a message delivered by a first class oba where it was stated of the aspiration of the union boss of becoming a king in Oshodi.

“It has been said in the trending videos and news that Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya AKA MC OLUOMO is soliciting to be appointed by the Governor of Lagos state. Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Oba of Oshodi. The trending news has heightened tension in Oshodi community as Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya AKA MC OLUOMO never hidden his desire to be Oba of Oshodi.”

According to them, MC Oluomo is an indigiene of Ejigbo and not Oshodi which is one of the reasons he is not fit to be a king as an alien.

“Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya AKA MC OLUOMO is a native of Ejigbo Town and without any affinity, whatsoever, to Oshodi and as such not eligible to the throne of the Oba Of Oshodi.

“That Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya AKA MC OLUOMO does not belong to any recognized land owning family in Oshodi and he is neither related to any of the two branches of Olushi Onigbesa Royal family already recommended by the standing tribunal of inquiry into chieftaincy matters in Lagos State, neither is his family recognized as a ruling house in the Chieftaincy declaration of 1982 regulating the selection of the candidate to the stool of Baale of Oshodi.

“The tribunal of inquiry into chieftaincy matters in respect of the upgrading Baale of Oshodi to first class Obaship status was set up by Lagos state Government. It lasted between January 2003 and December 2008 from which it was recommended that the Olushi Onigbesa Family of Oshodi Land is the only family eligible and entitled to the stool of the Oba of Oshodi,” it submitted.

Would the governor allow MC Oluomo, whose sobriquet is already ko s’oba l’Oshodi, a fi MC Oluomo, (meaning no one is recognised a king in Oshodi, except MC Oluomo) become another king in Lagos? Time will tell.
