Hon. Khairat Animashaun-Ajiboye, a respected member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and experienced public administrator, has issued a cautionary statement urging political actors not to underestimate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s influence and capabilities, especially amidst ongoing controversies in Lagos State.
Her comments came in the wake of heated debates over the endorsement of President Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, as a potential candidate for the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
The development has ignited discussions among key political stakeholders, with opinions sharply divided.
The Lagos APC has officially distanced itself from the endorsement drama, reiterating that its focus remains on the upcoming Congress and Local Government Elections in 2025.
Party leaders have called for unity among members, urging them to prioritise progress over personal ambitions.
Speaking on Lagos’ leadership needs, Hon. Animashaun-Ajiboye stressed that being close to President Tinubu or his wife does not automatically qualify anyone to lead the state.
She emphasised that Lagos deserves a younger, selfless leader who can connect with the diverse struggles and aspirations of its residents.
“Lagos leadership is not for every ally of a leader,” she remarked. “We need someone who understands the challenges of the poor, the middle class, and the business community, while fostering growth and prosperity.”
Hon. Animashaun-Ajiboye also stressed the importance of not taking President Tinubu’s political acumen lightly.
“His leadership is driven by a commitment to impactful governance and inclusivity,” she stated, noting that attempts to exploit his legacy or create division through premature endorsements are counterproductive.
