Speaking at the opening ceremony in Lagos, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, addressed 350 officers from the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA).

He urged them to be firm, objective, and courteous when engaging with school owners and administrators, stressing that they should act as progressive partners guiding institutions to comply with state standards.

Coordinating Director of OEQA, Remi Abdul, explained that the theme of the workshop “Strengthening Professionalism and Integrity for Effective Quality Assurance Operations” was deliberately chosen to highlight integrity as the bedrock of effective evaluation.

“Our responsibility goes beyond compliance checks. It is about modelling excellence, upholding standards, and reinforcing the confidence of stakeholders in the Lagos State education system,” Abdul said.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Basic and Secondary Education, Opeyemi Eniola, urged participants to sustain Lagos’ reputation for excellence in education.

“Don’t let down the guard of excellence. Continue to play the lead role by upholding the quality of education which has made Lagos State a cynosure of all eyes and a point of reference for other states in the country,” he said.

Delivering the keynote lecture, Prof. Mohammed Babatunde, Director of General Nigerian Studies at Lagos State University, commended the initiative, describing the training as both timely and strategic in safeguarding the future of education in Lagos.

The workshop is expected to strengthen the evaluators’ skills in monitoring schools and ensuring compliance with educational standards, while also fostering integrity and professionalism across the sector.
