Residents said the assailants dragged him out of his apartment before attacking him with machetes.
In a gruesome twist, his hand was severed during the assault. Witnesses described the atmosphere as tense and terrifying.
“There was some commotion early Thursday morning, but no one knew what it was until we found Austin’s corpse,” a resident disclosed, adding that many feared speaking openly due to security concerns.
Austin, who combined hairstyling with skit-making, reportedly had a premonition of his death. Neighbours revealed that he posted a cryptic farewell message on his WhatsApp status just a day before the attack, fueling speculation that he sensed danger.
A video obtained from the scene showed his lifeless body on the ground, surrounded by stunned sympathisers who could barely hold back tears.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached for comments as of press time. His silence has added to rising concerns over repeated cult-related killings in the state.
This incident comes weeks after six suspected cultists were arrested by police in Surulere over the killing of another victim, Kamoru, known as Keeper.
Authorities confirmed the group had been involved in violent clashes that claimed lives across Lagos.
