Ecobank, Wetheral Road Branch, Owerri Imo State, on Monday, Valentine’s Day suddenly lost its peace with the entrant of a dark bearded young man who sowed fear and threats to the both staff and customers.
The Mad Man approached a teller with a small piece of paper on which he scribbled his bank details: Chukwu Ezekwesili, a signature, and N2.5 million.
He told the teller to give him N1.2 million from his account, which turned out to be non-existent afterwards.
When newsmen inquired about the status of the strange customer, they were informed that there is no such name as Chukwu Okwesilieze with N2.5 million in his accounts as claimed.
The mad man was abusive, violent and hyperactive. As he ran out of patience, having not received any money from the teller, he picked N300,000 meant for a customer beside him, refusing to release it despite all entreaties.
As the internal security intervened and urged him to return customer’s money, he threatened to break their heads, calling them mad people and illiterate.
Smelling there could be more up his sleeves, the security personnel locked the security doors.
It took the intervention of Ikenna Aniche popularly known Nke-Nke Enyi Izuogu who tactfully recovered the money before concerned customers joined hands with security personnel to march him strength with strength and finally carried him out of the banking hall.
According to insinuations, a bank customer who identified him said that he is only a drug addict who uses the same way to rob people of their money.
He was later handcuffed and taken to an undisclosed police station for interrogation and investigation by the police officers attached to the bank.
Were it not for timely intervention of the management and security personnel in the bank, the business of the day could have been brought to abrupt end.
