Man United drop points as West Ham fight back for a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, denying the hosts a move into the Premier League’s top five
Manchester United’s struggle to defend a lead resurfaced on Thursday as Ruben Amorim’s side allowed West Ham United to fight back for a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, a result that kept the hosts outside the Premier League’s top five.

Full-back Diogo Dalot opened the scoring with his first league goal in 19 months, but United failed to hold on as Soungoutou Magassa equalised to secure a valuable point for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in their battle against relegation.
United have lost only once in eight matches, yet repeated setbacks from winning positions against Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Everton and now West Ham continue to damage their progress.
They sit eighth, two points off the top four, while the draw moved West Ham to within two points of safety.
Amorim welcomed Matheus Cunha back from injury, but United again lacked the invention required to stretch a disciplined West Ham defence.
Joshua Zirkzee, still deputising for the injured Benjamin Sesko, struggled to impose himself, although he came close to scoring with a clever effort from Amad Diallo’s cross before Aaron Wan-Bissaka cleared off the line.
Bruno Fernandes struck the outside of the post moments later, while West Ham—missing Lucas Paqueta after his red card for dissent against Liverpool—relied heavily on Jarrod Bowen.
The forward carved through four challenges in a spirited run, but his effort ran straight into goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
United eventually turned possession into an advantage when Casemiro’s deflected strike fell for Dalot, who controlled quickly and swept the ball into the far corner shortly before the hour mark.
The goal offered a brief spark in a match lacking sustained intensity.
However, West Ham responded with determination. Bowen won a corner, then flicked Andy Irvine’s delivery goalwards.
Noussair Mazraoui cleared off the line, but his touch fell into the path of Magassa, who finished confidently for his first goal in English football.

Fernandes had two late chances to restore United’s lead, but both attempts flew high, reflecting a night of missed opportunities for the hosts.
