During a Monday session in Lafia, the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr. Danladi Jatau, announced the defection of Mohammed Isimbabi from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jatau, while reading Isimbabi’s defection letter, noted that the lawmaker attributed his decision to ongoing divisions within the NNPP at the national level.
Jatau praised Isimbabi for his bold move, stating that his defection would strengthen the APC in the state. The Speaker expressed confidence that Isimbabi’s shift to the ruling party would bring added value to their efforts in Nasarawa.
Echoing the Speaker’s sentiments, Alhaji Aliyu Bello, the APC chairman in Nasarawa State, welcomed Isimbabi into the party, assuring him of fairness and equity as a new member.
Interestingly, Mr. Musa Abubakar, another NNPP lawmaker representing Doma South, hinted at his own possible defection, citing shared political interests with Isimbabi. He stated, “Hon Isimbabi’s defection is a welcome development. We share common political interests. I will be leaving NNPP soon.”
In his remarks, Isimbabi expressed gratitude to the NNPP for providing him the platform that led to his electoral victory. However, he emphasized that the division within the party at the national level necessitated his defection. He reassured his constituents of his continued dedication to improving their standard of living.
“Before taking this decision, I have gone round the six electoral wards of my constituency to consult them on my defection. They have given me the go-ahead to defect to APC,” Isimbabi added.
