Nasir El-Rufai police invitation raises political tension in Kaduna as opposition ADC leaders face allegations of conspiracy and incitement
Nasir El-Rufai police invitation has intensified political tension in Kaduna State after the former governor and six African Democratic Congress (ADC) leaders were summoned for questioning over allegations of conspiracy, incitement, and public disturbance.

In a letter dated September 4, 2025, the Kaduna State Police Command directed the ADC State Chairman to produce El-Rufai and six senior members before the State Criminal Investigation Department on September 8.
The police said the move is part of efforts to safeguard law and order.
Those invited include Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (a.k.a. “30”), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (a.k.a. “Mikiya”).
Hours before the summons, police operatives sealed off the ADC’s state secretariat, disrupting a scheduled solidarity visit by the party’s North-West leadership.
The action drew swift condemnation from El-Rufai, who described it as unconstitutional overreach.
“We have not seen any court order. Even if it exists, it was never served on us. What the police are doing clearly violates the Constitution,” El-Rufai said during a press briefing.
He added that while ADC leaders reluctantly deferred to police directives to avoid confrontation, the matter would be challenged in court, possibly up to the Supreme Court.
The development follows recent violent attacks on ADC members by political thugs, as well as last week’s disruption of a transition committee inauguration allegedly linked to El-Rufai.
Party officials have since distanced themselves from the ex-governor, calling the move illegitimate and destabilising.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Government has accused El-Rufai of scheming to destabilise the state. Commissioner for Internal Security,
Dr. Shehu Shuaibu, warned that anyone, including the former governor, who threatens the state’s peace “will be held accountable.”

As the standoff escalates, Kaduna’s fragile political climate faces renewed strain, with both sides preparing for what could be a prolonged legal and political battle.
