Another Niger Delta University (NDU) graduate has been killed in cult-related violence in Amassoma, just days before the university’s convocation ceremony

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]nother graduate of the Bayelsa State-owned Niger Delta University, Comrade Precious Abinna Briggs, has been killed in cult-related violence at Amassoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

It has been gathered that Briggs, a graduate of the Faculty of Engineering, was shot around the crotch on Monday night at a place called On Point, Okolobama Express Junction at Amassoma.

A community source who pleaded anonymity because he was not permitted to speak to the media on the incident said that the deceased was immediately rushed to a medical facility in the town, where he died.

The source said: “He was shot in the buttocks and he was rushed to Tantua Clinic in Amassoma where he died.”

The attack is coming as the university has lined up activities for the convocation ceremony on Friday, May 16, for the three previous sets of graduating students.

He was shot in the buttocks and he was rushed to Tantua Clinic in Amassoma where he died.

The late Briggs is the third NDU graduate to die in the past four days after the killing of Ayaokpo Sinclair and another at Gbarantoru Community last Friday.

Briggs, who once aspired to become the president of the Student Union Government of the university, signed out last Thursday after he wrote his final examination papers.

He was the president of the NDU Student Union Government, another student body, and was popularly referred to as The President Who Never Became A President.

A student who refused to be identified told our correspondent on Tuesday that some of the engineering students sought the protection of some men in army and police uniforms to write their final papers for fear of a reprisal, but it could not be confirmed.

“Some engineering students came to write their exams under security by some armed men wearing army and police uniforms, but look at what happened,” he stated.

When reached for comment, the Public Relations Officer of NDU, Mr Indoni Ingrzi, said he was not aware of the development and referred our correspondent to the Chief Security Officer.

When contacted on Tuesday, the spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr Musa Mohammed, confirmed the incident saying an investigation was ongoing.

“Yes, an investigation is ongoing,” he stated.
