The Nigeria Amputee Football Federation launches the “Empower Her” campaign to support the Special Falcons ahead of the Women’s World Cup.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Nigeria Amputee Football Federation (NAFF) has launched a vital fundraising campaign titled “Empower Her” on 19 October 2024.

This initiative aims to support the Nigeria Women Amputee Football National Team, the Special Falcons, as they prpare to make history at the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF) Women’s World Cup in Colombia, taking place from 4 to 10 November 2024.

This tournament is especially significant as it marks the first-ever Women’s Amputee Football World Cup, with Nigeria joining Cameroon and Kenya to represent Africa on this global stage.

The participation of the Special Falcons is a momentous occasion, showcasing the remarkable talent and resilience of female athletes from the continent.

For months, the Special Falcons have been in intensive training camp, gearing up for their inaugural appearance at this prestigious event.

However, financial constraints threaten to impede their participation, prompting the federation to launch the “Empower Her” campaign.

NAFF is calling upon the public, corporate organisations, and government bodies to provide financial support, emphasising that “no amount is too small.”

An official statement from NAFF underscores the urgency of the campaign: “These women have trained hard and are ready to make history. It would be devastating for them to miss the opportunity due to a lack of funding.”

The Special Falcons have been drawn into Group C, where they will face tough competition against Ecuador, the USA, and Ukraine.

With adequate support, the team aims to demonstrate their skills, determination, and the spirit of African athletes on the world stage.

This campaign not only seeks to raise funds but also highlights the importance of supporting women’s sports, particularly in a groundbreaking tournament such as this.

Nigeria’s participation will showcase the strength and talent of African athletes, breaking new ground in the sporting world.

For those wishing to contribute to this noble cause, donations can be made to the following account:

  • Account Name: Special Eagles
  • Account Number: 1228514777
  • Bank Name: Zenith Bank

As the NAFF calls for solidarity, they conclude their statement with a rallying cry: “Let’s rally behind our team and ensure they don’t miss out on this historic opportunity.
