Nigeria boost hopes for AFCON 2025 as NFF chief Ibrahim Gusau visits injured Ola Aina in London during his recovery.
Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Musa Gusau on Sunday in London visited Super Eagles defender Ola Aina as the fullback continued his rehabilitation, providing what officials described as a significant lift to the squad’s preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The visit was confirmed by the national team, which said the gesture aimed to encourage the player as Nigeria boost hopes ahead of the tournament.
Aina is recovering from the hamstring injury he sustained during Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Bloemfontein in September.
He underwent surgery after scans revealed a severe tear, cutting short a strong early-season run with Nottingham Forest.
The defender has now resumed light work on grass at Forest’s training base.
Recent images shared online show him undertaking pitch-based drills, marking an advanced stage of his recovery.
Forest have closely monitored his progress, with the club expecting his return to full fitness between December and early 2026.
Any involvement with Nigeria, however, will depend on medical clearance from club and country staff.
The injury had disrupted Forest’s defensive structure and compelled coaching staff to reshuffle options at right back.
His absence has also been felt by the Super Eagles, who require defensive depth as preparations for AFCON intensify.
Gusau’s visit was viewed within the squad as a powerful morale booster.
Team officials said Aina’s improving condition increases the likelihood of his availability for the tournament, which would provide head coach Eric Chelle with vital flexibility on the flanks.

Aina, who has represented clubs including Torino and Fulham, is expected to step up his workload in the coming weeks provided his recovery continues at its current pace.
