Constituency Project Funds

A former House of Representatives aspirant, David Ayodele Asalu, has made explosive allegations regarding the scale of funds allocated to Nigerian lawmakers for constituency projects

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]salu claims, “There is no honorable member in the National Assembly as of today… Every honorable member in Nigeria today has a constituency project of not less than a billion Naira.”

He further alleges a massive increase in these allocations, stating, “The allocation the constituency project from honorable members… was less than 200 million.

As of today, there is no honorable member… who has a constituency project less than 1.5, less than a billion Naira.

Every honorable member in Nigeria today has a constituency project of not less than a billion Naira.

Now, there is no senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who has a constituency project of less than 2 billion Naira. We are not exposing anybody, but these are facts.”

These allegations, if proven, suggest a dramatic escalation in the funds allocated to lawmakers for projects within their constituencies.

Constituency projects, while intended to address local needs, have long been a source of controversy in Nigeria, with concerns about transparency, accountability, and value for money.
