Ugwu, who was involved in prostitution, was found guilty of trafficking young Nigerian girls to Ghana for exploitation.

The court’s ruling came on Thursday, 19th September 2024. A video shared by GHOne TV showed Ugwu being escorted from the courthouse by security officials after the judgement was delivered.

In the footage, the visibly devastated Ugwu wept bitterly, cursing her misfortune, while officials tried to console her.

This conviction has been hailed as a significant win in the fight against human trafficking.

Abike Dabiri, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), responded to the news on social media platform X, expressing her satisfaction with the court’s ruling.

She described Ugwu as one of the key players in the trafficking of young Nigerian girls to Ghana, exploiting them for prostitution and other illegal activities.

Dabiri remarked, “This is a victory in the ongoing war against human trafficking. Favour Ugwu’s conviction represents a step forward in protecting vulnerable girls from exploitation.”
