[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n a candid interview on Biola Bayo’s TV show, Nollywood actress Bukky Fagbuyi opened up about the difficult realities she encountered at the beginning of her career.

Fagbuyi revealed the disturbing pressure she faced to engage in sexual relationships with producers and marketers as a condition for success in the Nigerian film industry.
According to Fagbuyi, she was repeatedly told that her career would stagnate unless she complied with these demands.
“Not one, not two people told me that if they didn’t have their way with me or date me, I would go nowhere,” she stated, highlighting the prevalence of such expectations.
Despite these challenging experiences, Fagbuyi emphasized her commitment to her personal values and her refusal to be coerced.
“I’m not a saint, but I would only do what I want to do if it pleases me. Nobody can force me to do what I never wanted to do,” she asserted.

Fagbuyi also acknowledged the positive influences in her early career. She credited veteran actor Muyiwa Ademola for providing her with a significant opportunity, referring to him as a crucial “gateway figure.”
Additionally, she praised actress Toyosi Adesanya for her unwavering support, stating, “She was very supportive of my career.”
Beyond her experiences in Nollywood, Fagbuyi shared her perspective on marriage, describing it as a “beautiful institution.”
However, she cautioned women against desperately seeking marriage, advising, “You must not search. Wait and pray,” and emphasizing the importance of prioritizing peace of mind.
