A former minister of education in Nigeria, Oby Ezekwesili, has stated that Africa’s democracy is failing because the citizens are losing trust in their leaders.
Recall that the democratically elected president of the country, Mohamed Bazoum, was recently ousted in a coup led by Abdourahmane Tchiani, who has headed the presidential guard since 2015.

In a post on her official handle on Twitter, Ezekwesili wondered when the African leaders would wake up to face the truth.
“It is a fact that Democracy is sadly in crisis all over the world.
“However, Democracy is not just struggling but collapsing at an alarming rate in our own West African neighborhood.
“Our politicians know why.
“They know and should stop acting surprised when things like Niger happen.
“The question therefore is, “are politicians ready to face the Truth that stares them in the face and admit their massive failures which have grossly eroded State Capabilities and lost them Legitimacy and Trust of their Citizens?”✍🏾✍🏾✍🏾,” she wrote.
