Easter message from Otunba Gbenga Daniel

Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former governor, Ogun State

In a letter dated 10th August 2024, Senator Daniel has acknowledged the indispensable support of His Royal Majesty, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba S.K. Adetona, along with other traditional leaders from Ogun Waterside, including the Ojotumoro of Abigi and the Osobia of Makun as the establishment of the Navy Forward Operational Base in Abigi, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area recorded an advancement.

He stated this when he expressed his appreciation to the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, for the eventual issuance and presentation of the Certificate of Occupancy for the land acquired several years ago for the project, an action that paves the way for the commencement of construction on the site after several delays.

The project has been allocated N2 billion in the 2024 Appropriation, secured with the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to bolster Nigeria’s maritime security infrastructure.

The site for the base, originally donated by the local community through traditional rulers for hydrographic purposes several years ago, had seen minimal development until now.

Senator Daniel, in his capacity as chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, has reinvigorated the project, ensuring it is set for significant expansion and operational readiness.

Senator Daniel also

According to the former governor, their collective efforts have been instrumental in securing the project for Ogun State, allaying fears of its possible relocation to another state.

While expressing his gratitude to the Nigerian president for his supports in securing the country’s territorial waters, Senator Daniel also commended the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, and his team for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests and for their collaborative efforts in advancing this strategic initiative.
