Ogun State Governor Budget Controversy deepens as Governor Dapo Abiodun plans to spend N6.6 billion on luxury SUVs in 2025, despite spending N5.8 billion on similar purchases between 2023 and 2024

Ogun State Governor Budget Controversy is drawing widespread criticism as the state’s 2025 budget reveals a staggering N6.6 billion allocation for luxury SUVs including Toyota Fortuners and Landcruisers by the office of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

This comes after N5.8 billion was already spent on similar vehicles between 2023 and 2024.

The budget line reads “Purchase of Fifteen Toyota Fortuners and Thirteen Toyota LandCruisers,” raising questions about fiscal responsibility in a state facing critical socioeconomic challenges.

While the Governor spends big on cars, public workers are locked in a power struggle with the government.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ogun State declared an indefinite strike on July 15, 2025, over the controversial Pension Reform Law, accusing the government of failing to remit contributions for over 14 years.

Workers aren’t alone in their frustration.

State athletes who represented Ogun at the National Sports Festival have also taken to the streets literally blocking the Games Village over unpaid allowances.

As this budget controversy unfolds, residents demand accountability over extravagance.
