In a heartfelt video shared ahead of her September 21 celebration, Senator Oluremi Tinubu announced she would forgo the traditional festivities and instead dedicate her milestone birthday to a cause “close to her heart”—the completion of the National Library.
“By the special grace of God, I will be turning 65 years old… I have decided to dedicate the day to God for all His blessings in my life and have a quiet birthday,” she said.
Rather than cakes, cards, or flowers, she asked well-wishers to donate to the Oluremi at 65 Education Fund—a designated account coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Education and Zenith Bank Plc (Account No: 1310314977).
The goal: contribute directly to completing the long-stalled National Library of Nigeria.
The Oluremi Tinubu Birthday Appeal highlights her long-standing commitment to education and literacy advocacy. “
My love for education has informed my decision to dedicate my birthday to this worthy cause,” she said, urging the public to support a national treasure that, once completed, would serve millions of Nigerians for generations.
Her spokesperson, Bukola Kukoyi, posted a cautionary message on social media warning against fraudulent accounts, emphasizing that only the officially designated Zenith Bank account should be used.
The First Lady’s decision to convert personal celebration into national purpose has earned praise, especially at a time when many public figures opt for extravagant displays.
Her choice reflects a values-based leadership style that prioritizes long-term impact over ceremony.
