Ahead of the Ondo guber election, about eleven political parties have formed an alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), handing a boost to the ambition of Eyitayo Jegede (SAN).

The merger was announced on Monday, October 5, in Akure, the state capital by Social Democratic Party (SDP) chairman, Oladele Ogunbameru, who doubles as the spokesperson of the political parties.

Ondo state governorship election has been scheduled for Saturday, October 10, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu faces a tough reelection hurdle as his popularity will be tested against Jegede who is the state’s former attorney general and commissioner of justice.

Another tough opponent in the race is Agboola Alfred Ajayi, Ondo deputy governor, who is contesting the election on the platform of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

Addressing journalists while announcing the merger, the SDP chairman said the political parties are forming an alliance against the bad government of Governor Akeredolu.

Ogunbameru further stated that the collaboration is an organised effort to save Ondo state from the loins of bad economic policies and draconian rule of the current government.

Meanwhile, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state has expressed confidence that the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC), will win the Ondo governorship election.

The governor said the strength of the APC will be revealed by the outcome of the Ondo guber poll, further explaining that the ruling party is not facing any challenge like what played out during the Edo governorship election.

The Ekiti governor said the manner Governor Godwin Obaseki was treated created problems for the APC during the Edo guber poll.
