The community is rapidly expanding due to the arrival of new companies, yet faces poor roads, limited schools, and inadequate healthcare.
Speaking in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Mr Olusola Sowande, chairman of the planning committee for the first coronation anniversary of the Olu of Orile Imo, Oba Oluwambe Sogaolu, called for urgent government support.
“Part of our challenges in the community is that we have not had enough government presence. Most of what we do is through self-help projects,” Mr Sowande said.
He noted that the community’s only secondary school, shut since 1984, was only recently returned. Children from some remote parts of the area still travel 3km just to attend primary school.
Despite limited state intervention, Oba Sogaolu has contributed significantly to local development.
Since his ascension last year, the monarch has funded several initiatives, including a newly completed police station set for commissioning during the coronation anniversary.
Deji Sowunmi, chairman of the event’s publicity committee, described the celebrations as a reflection of the king’s dedication to service, cultural harmony, and community upliftment.
