In a statement signed by its convener, Abubakar Kabir, the forum described Wike as a self-serving politician whose reckless comments and threats jeopardise national peace and democracy.
Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State, recently made inflammatory remarks threatening to “put fire in the states” of PDP governors who support Rivers State Governor Fubara. He also warned governors interfering in Rivers State matters, stating, “you will never sleep in your state.” The NUF criticised these statements as dangerous provocations that threaten national stability and are unbecoming of a public official.
The NUF has demanded Wike’s immediate dismissal from his role as FCT Minister, arguing that his behaviour demonstrates his unfitness for public office. They called on President Tinubu to choose between upholding the rule of law and aligning with Wike, whom they described as a politician bent on causing chaos to maintain his public profile.
Additionally, the forum urged the PDP leadership to take decisive action against Wike, asserting that sanctioning him would restore discipline within the party.
They emphasised that the party must uphold the principles of democracy, unity, and loyalty, which are crucial for any political system. According to the NUF, curbing Wike’s alleged political hooliganism is necessary to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy and maintain integrity in governance.
