The tragic flood has claimed at least 153 lives and displaced thousands of residents in the area.

During his visit to Mokwa on Monday, Obi stated that the financial donation was intended to support injured victims and provide some relief to the bereaved families grappling with the immense loss and hardship.

In addition to the monetary aid, he announced the donation of a trailer full of essential food items, including rice, maize, and millets, to further cushion the effect of the disaster on the affected communities.

Obi conveyed his deep sympathy to the Niger State government over the significant loss of lives and properties. He reiterated his call for both international and national support to ameliorate the widespread suffering of the victims.

We commend Mr Peter Obi for his show of kindness and love for humanity, especially in support of victims of recent natural disasters.

“I pray for the repose of the souls of the departed victims and for God to grant their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” he said.

Receiving Mr. Obi, the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, expressed profound appreciation for the opposition leader’s kindness and unwavering support.

Garba commended Obi for his consistent “show of kindness and love for humanity, especially in support of victims of recent natural disasters.”

The recent devastation in Mokwa followed warnings from the Nigerian Metrological Agency (NiMet) about possible flash floods in 15 states across the country, including Niger State.

Earlier, the wife of the Niger State Governor, Fatima Umaru Bago, had also visited the flood victims in Mokwa.
