Peter Obi, LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, donates N20 million and food items to flood victims in Mokwa, Niger State, expressing sympathy and urging wider support for the affected communities
[dropcap]P[/dropcap]eter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, has demonstrated solidarity with the victims of the devastating floods in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, donating ₦20 million and a trailer load of food items.

The tragic flood has claimed at least 153 lives and displaced thousands of residents in the area.
During his visit to Mokwa on Monday, Obi stated that the financial donation was intended to support injured victims and provide some relief to the bereaved families grappling with the immense loss and hardship.
In addition to the monetary aid, he announced the donation of a trailer full of essential food items, including rice, maize, and millets, to further cushion the effect of the disaster on the affected communities.
Obi conveyed his deep sympathy to the Niger State government over the significant loss of lives and properties. He reiterated his call for both international and national support to ameliorate the widespread suffering of the victims.

“I pray for the repose of the souls of the departed victims and for God to grant their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” he said.
Receiving Mr. Obi, the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, expressed profound appreciation for the opposition leader’s kindness and unwavering support.
Garba commended Obi for his consistent “show of kindness and love for humanity, especially in support of victims of recent natural disasters.”
The recent devastation in Mokwa followed warnings from the Nigerian Metrological Agency (NiMet) about possible flash floods in 15 states across the country, including Niger State.
Earlier, the wife of the Niger State Governor, Fatima Umaru Bago, had also visited the flood victims in Mokwa.

During her visit, she made a personal donation of ₦50 million on behalf of herself and her family to support the affected communities.
