Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has responded to the fire outbreak at the residence of Julius Abure, the party’s National Chairman. The incident, which occurred in Abuja on Wednesday, has been described by the party leadership as an assassination attempt.
According to reports, the mysterious fire started in the early hours of the morning while Abure and his family were asleep. The party’s spokesman, Obiora Ifoh, stated that the fire broke out shortly after 1 am.
In his statement posted on his official X handle on Thursday, Peter Obi expressed shock and sympathy for Abure and his family, acknowledging the trauma they must be experiencing due to the incident.
“I received with shock the report of a fire outbreak in the Abuja home of the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barr Julius Abure. I sincerely sympathize with Barr Abure and his family, who must be traumatized by now by this sad incident, while thanking God for their lives,” Obi said.
He urged party members and Nigerians to await the outcome of investigations by the police and fire service to determine the cause of the fire. Obi also expressed gratitude to those who intervened promptly to minimize the damages caused by the fire.
