The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to address the escalating security challenges plaguing Nigeria.

This appeal comes in the wake of the brutal murder of the Elesun of Esun Ekiti and Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, who were attacked and killed by suspected bandits after attending a security meeting in Irele-Ekiti.

In a statement posted on his official social media handle on Monday, Peter Obi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and urged President Tinubu to step up to the plate in handling the country’s pressing security issues.

“We are saddened by the report that Elesun of Esun Ekiti and Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti were murdered earlier today, cause of death: Insecurity and Tinubu,” Obi stated.

The former governor of Anambra State did not mince his words as he directly called on President Tinubu to “wake up from his sleeping bed” and take decisive action to prevent Nigeria from sliding into further chaos. Obi emphasized the urgency of the situation, cautioning that delays in addressing the security crisis could have dire consequences.

“We call on Tinubu to wake up from his sleeping bed and save Nigeria from total collapse. Don’t speak up today. Tomorrow, insecurity might consume you or a loved one,” he added.

Obi’s impassioned plea highlights the growing concern among political figures and the public regarding the state of security in Nigeria. The recent tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive and effective measures to curb the wave of violence and insecurity gripping the nation.
