The Eugene-Springfield Fire Department is raising the alarm about a person who pretended to be a fire marshal to try to get inside a Eugene bank.
The department says the impersonation happened Monday before 5 p.m.
A bank employee called the department to confirm whether the person was actually a fire marshal, and they were told to call police.
“We don’t have a suspect description,” said Mike Caven, Deputy Chief of Operations with Eugene-Springfield Fire.
“The information or question was asked after the fact, which prompted us to send out a news release to help spread the word of what to expect if Eugene-Springfield fire marshal’s office is going to contact your business for an inspection, how will they show up and what kinds of identification should they have.”
The department says you can always call the non-emergency police line to confirm the identity of a public safety employee.
Deputy fire marshals doing business inspections also carry badges for identification.
