A task force, Lagos State Vehicle Waste Basket Enforcement & Compliance Unit, has arrested a driver for not having the state’s branded waste basket in his vehicle.
In a video making rounds in the social media, an officer of the agency was recorded explaining to the driver that his offence was carrying Ekiti State branded waste basket while his vehicle was registered with a Lagos State number.
“You’re carrying Ekiti Waste bin inside Lagos State vehicle,” the officer explained while holding out a basket with Lagos sticker, “This is what you’re supposed to carry.”
“This is wrong. The fact that you’re living in Lagos State, you’re working in Lagos State, your vehicle is Lagos State, this is what you’re supposed to carry,” he explained further, “Not Ekiti State.”
The driver, who seemed to find the accusation ridiculous, queried if he could buy his own waste basket and put in his car but the officer insisted that he was given Lagos registration for a purpose, hence he must carry Lagos State’s waste basket.
He later asked the man to pay N3,500 for the authorised waste basket. This led to confrontation between the driver and the task force officers.
