The Service of Songs was recently held at Lagos Polo Club for the late Dapo Ojora, one of the sons of the boardroom guru, Chief Adekunle Ojora.

Freelanews had reported that Dapo was reportedly dead due to either mishandling of a gun, while it was believed in some quarters that the late polo buff committed suicide due to depression.

Late Dapo Ojora, Baba Polo

Rumour had it that that all was not well between Baba Polo, as he was fondly called, and his wife, Patricia, back in 2019. And Dapo also withdrew into his shell when he was involved in a fatal accident which almost claimed his life.

Born to Erelu Ojuolape Ojora, Dapo was an avid sportsman with special love for polo. It was gathered that in 1996, Ojora’s team, Lagos AGAD won the prestigious Majekodunmi Cup. He played with Bello Buba, Adamu Yaro and Audu Dantata. In 2003, Dapo played for the Lagos Ashbert Raiders that won the Majedounmi Cup. He played alongside Albert Esiri, Salvador Socas and Bayo Amusan.

His father contested for the title of Oba of Lagos but the then Prince Babatunde Osuolale Akiolu (a retired assistant inspector general of police) was picked by the kingmakers.

The service of songs, which was held on December 17, was attended by family and friends, among them was the former Nigerian senate president, Bukola Saraki, and his wife, Gbemi, who was also the late Dapo’s sister.

The Nigerian police believed late Dapo, who was survived by wife and children, was murdered and said investigation into his death was still ongoing.
