Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa has finalised plans to organise a health awareness campaign to sensitise the public on how to keep their premises free of rats.

The campaign, according to Hope President of the club, Rotarian Sola Ayanwale, FCA will hold at Alausa Market, Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday, December 19 2023.

Rotarian Ayanwale expatiated that the public campaign is part of Rotary International’s annual Disease Prevention And Treatment Month, which takes place in December of every year.

He added that Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa will, in their usual manner, join the battle to keep their homes, environment and community free of health hazards by staging what he called ‘War Against Rats.’

Ayanwale added: “Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa will on Tuesday take our health awareness campaign to Alausa Market with W-A-R … that is – War Against Rats.

“We will educate the public, especially market women, traders and buyers, on ways of maintaining better health by getting rid of rats in the society.

“They are troublesome rodents that spread germs and cause deadly diseases like lasa fever. They destroy properties, cause wastage of food, disturb the family, and embarrass people in their homes.

“Our campaign on Tuesday will include playing music to attract attention, as we spread necessary awareness about the dangers of rats and ways of preventing them.

“We will include sharing of mouse glue traps, distribution of leaflets, and one-on-one lectures with various people in the market. Our theme is, Let’s Keep Lagos Free of Rats.”

He concluded with a charge to people from all walks of life to pay more attention to domestic sanitary issues, as having a healthy community starts from cleanliness at home.
