Sanwo-Olu E1 Lagos Grand Prix has been announced as a landmark sporting and cultural event, with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inviting residents and visitors to take part in Africa’s first all-electric powerboat championship.

The E1 Lagos Grand Prix, scheduled from October 3 to 5, will see the world’s fastest electric boats take to Lagos waters, placing the city alongside global host destinations such as Monaco, Venice, and Jeddah.
In a statement on Monday, Sanwo-Olu described the championship as a historic moment for both Lagos and Africa.
He emphasised that it reflects the city’s ambition for innovation, sustainability, and international recognition.
“The E1 Lagos Grand Prix is a demonstration of innovation and progress, showing how sport can inspire sustainable solutions for the future.
It is also a celebration of the creativity and resilience that define our people,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that the event would showcase Lagos as a welcoming and dynamic city, determined to embrace the future with confidence.

Promoters of the initiative noted that the championship, the world’s first of its kind, will not only bring cutting-edge sporting technology to Nigeria but also give Lagos the chance to position itself as Africa’s aquatic capital.
