The passing of Justice Olukayode Olumuyiwa Somolu has been described as a significant loss by His Excellency, The Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
Speaking about the former Judge, Senator Daniel expressed his condolences to the members of the Bench, the legal profession, Ogun State, and Nigeria as a whole.

Senator Daniel praised Justice Somolu as one of the finest, fairest, and most impartial judges, as well as a great son of Ogun State. He acknowledged the pain felt by Justice Somolu’s immediate family, his colleagues on the Bench, and the Ogun State Judiciary, as well as the government and people of Ogun State, for whom he served diligently and fairly throughout his career.
During his time as Governor of Ogun State from 2003 to 2011, Senator Daniel highlighted the close friendship between Justice Somolu and his family, as well as their support and service during challenging times. He expressed his gratitude for the invaluable advice provided by Justice Somolu, which contributed to the successes of his administration.
The former governor extended his heartfelt condolences to Justice Somolu’s immediate family, the people of Ogun State, and the government. He prayed for the eternal rest of the late Justice and strength for his family during this difficult period.
“I share in the pains of members of Justice Somolu’s immediate family, his colleagues on the Bench and Ogun State Judiciary, the government and people of Ogun State for whom he served meritoriously and impartially all through his career as a lawyer and later as a Judge.
“Justice Somolu and other members of his family were very close friends of our administration while I had the opportunity of serving the people of Ogun State as Governor between 2003 and 2011. They gave all support and served in different critical capacities during some difficult times.
“I owe late Justice Somolu a debt of gratitude for his immense and invaluable advice some of which assisted in the modest successes widely acclaimed and credited to our administration.
“My deep condolences to members of his immediate family, to the good people and government of Ogun State, and I pray that the good Lord will grant his repose eternal rest and strength for his family in this trying period,” he said.
