Senator Daniel leads Senate Navy Committee oversight visit in Rivers, boosting maritime security, training, and civil-military relations across naval bases

Senate Navy Committee oversight took center stage in Rivers State as Senator Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel led a powerful three-day review of Nigerian Navy formations from July 23 to 25, 2025.

The visit underscored Senate’s commitment to improving maritime security, training, and personnel welfare.

The oversight began at NNS Pathfinder in Port Harcourt, where Commodore CN Aniaku hosted the delegation.

Senators Khalid Ibrahim, Cyril Fasuyi, Tony Nwoye, and others joined Daniel to review challenges and commend progress—particularly in the Navy’s clampdown on crude oil theft and piracy under Operation Delta Sanity II.

Visits to Navy Shipyard Ltd, Nigerian Navy Secondary School, and Naval Medical Centres showcased both operational strength and the Navy’s community impact.

Senator Daniel lauded these civil outreach efforts and pledged legislative support for enhanced funding and infrastructure.

The Senate Navy Committee oversight, led by Senator Daniel, continued at NAVTRAC and the Nigerian Navy College, where high standards of training and discipline were observed.

The tour of NNBTS in Onne and a bold sea inspection to Bonny Island’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) further emphasized the Navy’s role in protecting critical national infrastructure.

On the final day, the Navy Hydrographic School briefed the delegation on the use of Falcon Eye and Regional Maritime Awareness Capacity systems—technology credited for helping Nigeria maintain its “zero-piracy” rating in 2025.

Senator Daniel praised the personnel’s resilience and professionalism, emphasizing that the Senate will act on key recommendations to strengthen naval operations.

Rivers State also pledged continued collaboration with security forces to secure coastal regions and economic assets.
