The much talked about Davido’s concert slated for March 5, 2022 may not be as the roof of the O2 Arena in London has been split open.
This is as result of Storm Eunice which battered the country with powerful winds, necessitating the capital being put under a red weather warning; the biggest storm in over 30 years.
Recall that the Nigerian superstar is set to make history yet again being the second time he would be performing at the arena when he announced the concert sometimes in 2021.
Videos and pictures posted to social media showed an iconic part of the London skyline flapping open in the wind, with witnesses claiming it was “shredded” open by the powerful gusts.
Mala Sharma said “more and more parts are getting ripped off”, adding, “it’s going to be a safety issue for people around”.
She said that it happened “right in front of my eyes” and that the damage “started off with a patch” but then a “chunk” of the dome roof ripped off.
Eunice has been ripping its way through the country, with millions being warned to stay indoors to protect themselves.
A person was rushed to hospital with “serious injuries” after being hit by falling debris in Henley-on-Thames.
Thames Valley Police tweeted: “A member of the public have been struck by falling debris from a roof in Station Road, Henley-on-Thames caused by #StormEunice.
“They have been taken to hospital with serious injuries by our colleagues from @SCAS999.”
Londoners have been urged to avoid any non-essential travel while the warnings are in place.
A TfL spokeswoman said: “Due to the Met Office’s red warning over Storm Eunice, customers are advised to only travel if essential, and those who need to should check before they travel using our website and the TfL Go app.
“We are doing all we can to ensure we are prepared for any impact with extra staff ready to respond quickly to any incidents, but some services will be affected by the extreme weather.
“We are also urging Londoners to please take care if they travel around the city.”
Eunice has battered almost every corner of the country, causing traffic and travel chaos in its wake.
In January 2019, Davido sold out the 20,000 capacity concert venue, O2 Arena which is a huge feat to achieve for any artist.
The DMW label boss shared the stage with other artistes on the DMW roster – Mayorkun, Peruzzi, Dremo, Yonda & Idowest. Rapper, Zlatan Ibile also took to the stage on the night.
