SUNU Health strengthens provider collaboration nationwide with its 2025 National Providers Forum focused on transparency, innovation, and service delivery

SUNU Health strengthens provider collaboration through the successful hosting of its 2025 National Providers Forum (NPF), held on 24 June in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The event marked a strategic milestone in deepening engagement with medical service providers and enhancing health sector delivery across Nigeria.

Organised in compliance with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) regulations, the forum carried the theme “Bridging the Gap: Building a Stronger HMO–Provider Relationship.”

It drew participation from across the country, combining in-person attendance with virtual contributions for greater inclusivity and impact.

In his keynote address, Dr Patrick Korie, Managing Director of SUNU Health Nigeria Limited, set the tone by emphasising the organisation’s core mission to foster a transparent, responsive, and mutually beneficial relationship with healthcare providers.

“Crucially, the discussions will highlight the significant advantages of strong collaboration. A sound HMO-provider relationship directly improves patient care, streamlines operations, and enhances the healthcare system’s credibility,” he said.

Dr Korie acknowledged widespread provider concerns around delays in payment, unclear guidelines, and weak communication.

In response, he announced strategic reforms by SUNU Health, including a 30-day payment cycle for NHIA and PHIS claims, investment in digital claims and communication platforms, and continuous data analytics to improve performance.

At SUNU, which means ‘our own,’ humanity is at the centre of all our initiatives.

The NPF 2025 featured critical discussions on tariff structures, service delivery, and efficient claims management.

Healthcare professionals, policy experts, and service managers explored innovations in care models, technology integration, and regulatory navigation, sharing best practices and proposing actionable solutions.

SUNU Health also conducted an extensive provider and client survey ahead of the forum, using the insights to inform its realignment of operational processes.

Dr Korie reiterated the company’s philosophy:
“At SUNU, which means ‘our own,’ humanity is at the centre of all our initiatives. Building stronger relationships with providers is not just a business goal—it is essential to delivering quality care.”

A key highlight of the forum was its hybrid format. Providers joined from across Nigeria, ensuring a diversity of experiences and perspectives.

This model enhanced accessibility and demonstrated SUNU Health’s commitment to nationwide inclusion.

Dr Faith Nwachi, Chief Operating Officer of SUNU Health, reinforced the value of sustained engagement.

“The National Providers Forum is more than a gathering. It’s a testament to our belief in the power of partnership. The insights gained today will help raise healthcare standards and foster sustainable industry growth,” she said.

Participants praised the forum for its relevance, knowledge-sharing opportunities, and open dialogue.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment from SUNU Health to deepen its provider network engagement, introduce new support initiatives, and advocate policies that promote healthcare excellence in Nigeria.
