Super Falcons WAFCON 2024 celebration: MTN honours team with ₦150m after thrilling comeback win in Morocco. Nigeria marks a historic 10th continental title
Super Falcons WAFCON 2024 celebration reached new heights on Thursday as MTN Nigeria hosted a special event in Lagos to honour the triumphant Nigerian women’s football team.

The breakfast event, held at Eko Hotels & Suites, followed their historic win at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Led by coach Justine Madugu, the Super Falcons delivered an unforgettable performance, overturning a 2–0 first-half deficit to defeat the host nation 3–2 at the Stade Olympique in Rabat.
The victory marked their record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
To celebrate their incredible achievement, MTN Nigeria awarded the team a ₦150 million cash gift, applauding their spirit and impact beyond the pitch.
“You are more than athletes, you are inspirations,” said Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria. “Today, we are connected with pride and joy through the unbreakable spirit of the Super Falcons.”
The event was attended by top dignitaries including NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, MTN board members, federal government officials, and passionate supporters.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade expressed heartfelt appreciation. “We feel valued, honoured, and respected.
This inspires us to do better and keep inspiring the next generation,” she said, also thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady for their national recognition.
Ajibade made it clear the journey isn’t over: “We’re grateful for the 10th title, but we want more. We aim to be global contenders, and we hope for continued investment in women’s football in Nigeria.”
MTN board member Ifueko Omoigui Okauru added a powerful message: “Let the Super Falcons’ story remind every Nigerian never give up. Despite setbacks and hardships, their triumph is proof that resilience wins.”
