If the news reaching Freelanews is anything to go by, then the family of a social icon and veteran journalist, Chief Adekunle Ojora, who was the chairman of the board of AGIP Nigeria Limited from 1971 until it was acquired by Unipetrol in 2002, is in mourning.
According to a source, it was alleged that one of the sons of the Nigerian business juggernaut, Dapo, has committed suicide.
It would be recalled that in 2019, there were reports that all was not well between the polo buff and his wife, Patricia.
Rumour had it that the much-celebrated relationship of the duo hit the rocks and that friends and family of the couple were doing everything they can to reconcile them.
Also a usually outgoing Dapo decided to take a long break from the social scene immediately after he survived a bike accident. It was a terrible scare for his family, friends and other loved ones in the wake of the ghastly accident as too many of them feared he would not survive the deadly crash which he did. And ever since, Dapo withdrew into his shell, carefully shunning every attempt by his friends and family to lure him out of his cocoon of anonymity.
Born to Erelu Ojuolape Ojora, Dapo was an avid sportsman with special love for polo. It was gathered that in 1996, Ojora’s team, Lagos AGAD won the prestigious Majekodunmi Cup. He played with Bello Buba, Adamu Yaro and Audu Dantata. In 2003, Dapo played for the Lagos Ashbert Raiders that won the Majedounmi Cup. He played alongside Albert Esiri, Salvador Socas and Bayo Amusan.
His father contested for the title of Oba of Lagos but the then Prince Babatunde Osuolale Akiolu (a retired assistant inspector general of police) was picked by the kingmakers.
Dapo’s other siblings included the late Gbegi Ojora and Toyin Saraki, the wife of the former Nigerian senate president, Bukola Saraki.
Though the detail of the death is still sketchy as at the time of publishing this report, it was, however, not clear whether he committed suicide or accidentally shot himself.
More details soon.
