Below was the victory speech by the new Lagos chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lekan Biliamin Sulaimon-Oba, after a rigorous campaign.

After the rain comes sunshine. After the campaigns and tours across the 3 Senatorial Districts in Lagos State, comes victory at the poll. Now it is time for us to get to work.

The expectations from different quarters are high, therefore, we cannot afford to drop the ball.

All praises and adoration to our creator for granting us the grace to lead the most vibrant Youth Council in Nigeria; this is indeed a rare privilege.

We presented to you our #YOUAgenda during the campaigns, with a number of promises, now is the time to fulfill them.

We want to assure you that this will be one of the most historic tenures in the history of NYCN Lagos State as we are determined to surpass the records of Elder Ewedemi with an all-inclusive administration. We have listened to your yearnings and worries to formulate our plans as we move to live up to the hope and confidence reposed in us .

The promises remain our goals, rest assure nothing will derail us from actualizing this action plans.

To other candidates, I must be sincere that we are all capable with good intentions but as we all know in a contest, a winner must emerge. I am using this moment to extend my hands of partnership to my brothers, Kuku, Teslim Olusi, Giwa, Nathaniel and my respected brother, Comrade Amosun. I look forward to meeting you all for a synergetic, progressive and transparent administration in order to deliver a Youth Council we all will be proud of.

To our leaders, elders, coordinators, local branches executives, VYOs, stakeholders and the over 10 Million Youths in the State that is above Common Standards; it’s time to roll our sleeves and collectively change the narratives to make the Youth Council the pride of all nations.

We will be more pragmatic in our approach to the task ahead. In a couple of days, the official website of the NYCN Lagos State will be activated alongside all social media platforms for the communication of our goals and achievements as well as generate feedbacks from the public.

As we pledged during the campaigns, the Directorate Offices will be effectively marshalled out for clearcut implementations.

This message will be incomplete without appreciating our dear Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu for his commitment at developing the Lagos State youths.
We also appreciate our distinguished Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mr Segun Dawodu; Ministry officials/delegates for ensuring a smooth transition. Certainly, history will be kind to you all as you have helped my generation find its purpose.

My strong appeal to all interests is that we should all resolve to work for the interests of the progress of the council across board. Let us be the unifier, let us be the bridge, let’s put our grouses behind to be able to achieve more.

All participants in this congress are the HEROES and we must guide this achievement jealously.

My special appreciation also to Leader Ewedemi for the usual guidance. He picks my calls even in the middle of the night. Leader Odunuga, thank you for always reminding me to be steadfast, Baba Allen, thank you for the nurturing, Deacon Sanya, thank you sir for the fatherly love and counselling. Leader Oresile, thank you for the forgiving heart, Leader Ismaheel, thanks for that last minute audience and words of encouragement at Ikeja. Leader Oyewole, I salute your doggedness, Leader Lanleyin, I appreciate that prayer at Fadeyi, Leader Shonibare, Leader Gbadebo, thank you for always checking on my wellness, Otunba Qudus and all leaders of thought too numerous to mention. Thank you for rescuing the Council again, you all are the true Heroes.

To the executives and every mind that will be part of this assignment, it’s about work, work and result-oriented agenda and we cannot afford anything short of standard.

The world is waiting for us to change the narratives.

ISE YA!

Signed

Lekan Biliamin Oba
Chairman, NYCN Lagos State Chapter
