The rumored intended defection of former President Goodluck Jonathan and the recent defection of Femi Fani Kayode (FFK) to the governing APC, according to Chief Francis Inegbeneki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, show that the PDP has lost touch with Nigerians.
Inegbeneki, who stated that the APC was growing stronger ahead of the 2023 general election, also stated that the slew of defections from the PDP to the ruling APC across the country, as well as the party’s internal crisis, are further evidence that the PDP is undergoing political turmoil across the country.
The high chief stayed this when some APC leaders and other top echelon of the party paid him a solidarity visit in his Benin City residence to beg him to contest for the position of the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State.
According to him, he is still consulting with party faithful and other staunch member of the party who have the final say.
Inegbeneki said it is the political leaders from across the 18 Local Government Councils that will decide and pledged to be available to serve his people if need be.
He said if given the opportunity to serve as the state Chairman of APC, he will rebuild and rebrand the party ahead of 2023, just as he also promised to reconcile all political acrimonies and tendencies in the state.
While expressing his unalloyed support for the APC ahead of the state Congress, Inegbeneki urged all members of the APC to remain steadfast and restrategize in the party’s efforts to reclaim Edo state in future elections.
He however called on the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki to respect the rule of law and properly inaugurate the house of assembly and also constitute the state exco as contained in Section 192 of the constitution, which says, ‘The governor SHALL appoint commissioners which shall be confirmed by the house of assembly’
Inegbeneki also pledged to lead the party as State Chairman of the APC in Edo, just as he solicit the support of all stakeholders saying that he is willing and ready to win back Edo state to APC.
