Dr. Ogbunwezeh made this assertion during an appearance on the online interview programme 90MinutesAfrica, hosted by Rudolf Okonkwo.
During the interview, Dr. Ogbunwezeh, a former Director at the International Society for Human Rights (ISHR) in Frankfurt, Germany, stated, “President Tinubu does not have the capacity or the competence to govern Nigeria. Even if you give him a hundred years, he won’t know what to do with the country.”
He further challenged Tinubu to demonstrate the policies he has introduced to control inflation or stop the devaluation of the naira.
“The first thing he did was remove the petrol subsidy without implementing measures to cushion its impact on the people. This was done solely because the IMF instructed him to,” Ogbunwezeh remarked.
He also noted that opportunistic forces quickly took advantage of this situation, leaving the president overwhelmed.
The former Director for Genocide Prevention at Christian Solidarity International (CSI) highlighted the absence of a clear agenda from Tinubu’s administration.
“If President Tinubu has no clear agenda, no cabinet reshuffle will improve the current situation,” Ogbunwezeh stressed, further criticising the rumoured upcoming changes in Tinubu’s cabinet as ineffective without a guiding vision.
Dr. Ogbunwezeh added that Nigeria’s government has been captured at every level.
“The legislature under Senator Akpabio cannot hold the executive accountable, and the judiciary is corrupt. The country has been taken over by individuals who are clueless about governance but are driven by self-interest,” he remarked.

He also criticised the administration’s lack of direction, stating, “The government’s solution to every problem is throwing rice at the people. This has become a ‘rice government’.”
