Serial entrepreneur and founder of The Tony Elumelu Foundation, Tony Elumelu, has debunked the speculations in some sections of the media that the Nigerian president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is considering making him the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
These speculations may have gained traction due to photos of Elumelu’s meetings with the president, which have been frequently shared on social media recently, especially during the just-concluded Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference held in Abuja.
It is worth noting that Elumelu, also known as TOE, was a keynote speaker at the conference. You can read his full speech HERE.
Furthermore, on June 12 of this year, a social media user posted a picture of Elumelu with a caption stating, “According to a source, President Tinubu is also considering Tony O. Elumelu as CBN Governor.”
These discussions on social media among Twitter users caught the attention of the businessman. However, he lightheartedly dismissed the speculations of a potential appointment, labeling it as false news.
“LOL. No, please. This is false news! 🙏🏾” he wrote.
The smart business has been known to be a personal friend of the president and this was confirmed after the general elections when the latter paid him a personal visit to celebrate his victory.
Elumelu is among the 38 prominent members of the Nigerian Private sector to attend the Nigeria-India Presidential roundtable and conference in New Delhi, India.
The event which is organized by the Nigerian High Commission in India in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Nigeria-India Business Council (NIBC) is expected to be addressed by President Tinubu.
