Gboyega Akosile, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has asked social media users to ignore a video showing the moment when football supporters booed Sanwo-Olu’s convoy.

A video had emerged showing several cars leaving the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere after the Super Eagles of Nigeria clashed with Lesotho in an African Cup of Nations qualifier game on Tuesday.

This is wrong, totally false. This is not Governor @jidesanwoolu‘s convoy. Let’s stay away from spreading falsehoods. I’d implore you to correct your wrongful publication. https://t.co/FlxAQBpyVo

However, as the vehicles moved, the game supporters chanted “Ole”, a Yoruba word for “thief” as they threw empty plastic bottles at the vehicles.

The Tweet captioned the video, “Immediately Governor Sanwo-Olu departed Teslim Balogun stadium after the match. Hear the response from supporters…”

Governor @jidesanwoolu was in the stadium till very dark yesterday. No incident as being spread by @renoomokri and his co-travellers happened during Mr. Governor’s departure from the Teslim Balogun stadium. Let’s stamp out #fakenews from our system. pic.twitter.com/J545bsTwml

— Gboyega Akosile (@gboyegaakosile) March 31, 2021

In reaction, Akosile described the video as false and misleading, saying the governor’s convoy was not involved in the incident.

Sanwo-Olu’s aide tweeted, “This is wrong, totally false. This is not Governor @jidesanwoolu’s convoy. Let’s stay away from spreading falsehoods. I’d implore you to correct your wrongful publication.”
