Awesu Mojisola Oluwafunmike, a 21-year-old final-year student from Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa, was found dead at a refuse site in Ilorin, Kwara State, three weeks after celebrating her graduation. Mojisola had recently shared joyful photos and videos from her graduation ceremony before her sudden disappearance on August 9, 2024.
According to reports, Mojisola had been contacted by a fellow student, Miss Timileyin, who invited her to a student-organized event at Summit University and Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin. Timileyin introduced Mojisola to Mr. Adebayo Happiness, a student from Summit University, who allegedly offered her ₦15,000 to pose as his girlfriend for the event.
Despite feeling uneasy about the arrangement, Mojisola traveled to Ilorin and informed her roommate, Miss Blessing O, that she was uncomfortable at the hotel where Adebayo had lodged her. She expressed concerns that the supposed event did not seem to exist as described. Shortly afterward, Mojisola’s phone was turned off, and all attempts by her roommate to reach her were unsuccessful.
On August 12, 2024, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi of the Kwara State Police Command confirmed that Mojisola’s lifeless body had been discovered at a refuse site near Aleniboro by a resident named Olorunoje. The discovery was made after laborers informed Olorunoje while he was returning from the mosque on August 11.
The police team dispatched to the scene reported traces of blood near the deceased’s left ear, suggesting possible foul play. At the time of filing this report, investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mojisola’s death are ongoing.
As the investigation continues, her family, friends, and fellow students are left to mourn the untimely death of a young woman whose life was tragically cut short.
