Tragedy strikes as reckless driver allegedly claims lives of LAWMA sanitation workers in Gbagada (Video)

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has announced the tragic death of two of its dedicated sanitation workers.

The unfortunate incident occurred in the Gbagada axis as the workers were diligently carrying out their duties and providing essential services to the community.

The victims, whose identities were not immediately disclosed, allegedly fell victim to a reckless driver while discharging their lawful duties. The driver, identified by the authorities as the perpetrator, was operating a vehicle with the license plate EPE 984 DV.

According to the agency, LAWMA is actively collaborating with law enforcement agencies to swiftly apprehend the responsible party and ensure they face legal consequences for their actions.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers sanitation workers face daily in the line of duty.

LAWMA, in its press release, pleaded with motorists to exercise the utmost caution on the highways to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring. The appeal underscores the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring the safety of individuals performing legitimate duties, such as sanitation workers who contribute significantly to the well-being of the community.

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to address the situation appropriately. The management urged the public to remain calm as investigations unfold and legal proceedings are initiated against the reckless driver.

PRESS STATEMENT

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) regrets to announce the tragic death of two of our esteemed sanitation workers, who were hit by a reckless driver, in the cause of discharging their lawful duties and rendering invaluable services to humanity around Gbagada axis.

LAWMA is working with security agencies to apprehend and prosecute the errant driver of the car, with vehicle number EPE 984 DV.

We wish to appeal to motorists for the umpteenth time, to drive with utmost caution on the highways, to avoid sad incidents like this happening to our sanitation workers or anyone in the course of their legitimate duties.

The public is urged to remain calm as appropriate steps are being taken and necessary measures put in place.

Our heartfelt condolences go to the families of the deceased, whom we love most dearly. May their souls continue to rest in peace.
