Adams Oshiomhole, All Progressive Congress (APC) national chairman, has lifted more lids on why the Edo governor, Godwin Obaseki, was given a tough treat in what looks like a final attempt to axe him out of the ruling party.
The embattled governor was on Friday, June 12, axed out of the race for APC governorship ticket over alleged “defective certificate” alongside two others.
The shock-filled decision came on the heels of irreconcilable differences between the Edo governor and his immediate predecessor.
Obaseki is now impelling towards a shock decision as the governor may run on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after meeting with top chieftains of the opposition party.
Speaking on Monday, June 15, after meeting with Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, the chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Oshiomhole stated that the ruling party is guided by principles and laws which can not be remodelled for anybody including Obaseki.
The APC national chair further said the party is not concerned about Obaseki’s defection ploy, adding that the party is not for big men who rules can be bent to favour.
“Our party is not a party of big men. It is governed by rules. Both the small and the big are subjected to those rules.
“I’m sure you will agree that our president led by example when we conducted direct primary in the last presidential election. We still went to Eagle Square for affirmation,” Oshiomhole said.
Governor Obaseki is now favourite to clinch the Peoples Democratic Party governorship ticket in Edo state.
This new permutation came days after the Edo state governor was disqualified from the race in the APC.
