Covenant University has denied allegations of harbouring four fake professors, as reported by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Freelanews reports that the university’s spokesperson, Chichi Ononiwu in a statement on Sunday, refuted the claims, asserting that there are no such individuals listed in their payroll.

There were reports that the NUC had uncovered a list of about 100 phoney professors spread across some Nigerian universities, including Covenant University.

Ononiwu clarified that the university has never had any interaction with the four individuals mentioned in the NUC’s publication. Emphasizing the institution’s commitment to maintaining high standards, she explained that Covenant University’s recruitment processes are rigorous, and appointments or promotions adhere to world-class criteria.

“The attention of the university management was drawn to a purported publication by the National Universities Commission [NUC] titled – ‘About 100 Fake Professors Uncovered In Nigerian Universities’,” the statement reads.

“The publication listed four such Professors in Covenant University.

“The University Management wishes to set the record straight, as we have no such names as listed in the said article in our payroll. Also, Covenant had never interacted with any of the four persons at any time, and in any capacity, as the university would not appoint unqualified persons as professors,” stated Ononiwu.

She said the institution’s recruitment exercise is always rigorous, adding that its appointments and promotions criteria were of world class standard.

She urged stakeholders to disregard the misinformation, assuring that the university remains dedicated to upholding the integrity of its academic faculty.

“By this statement, the university advised our esteemed stakeholders to kindly disregard this misinformation,” she added.
